Arch. Marie Stephanie N. Gilles is known for her expertise in designing sacred spaces and developing sustainable designs. Attributing her extensive knowledge and skills in design and construction through years of intensive experience, learning and working side by side with various leading professionals in the field of architecture, such as Ar. Roger & Roy Villarosa, Ar. Willy Coscolluela, Financial Builders Corporation, and David M. Consunji, Inc. among many others.
For several years now, she has been working on her own projects as the Principal Architect of SNG Design Enterprise. The projects ranging from schools, commercial and residential buildings, offices & clinics, residences, to churches and chapels, vacation houses and resorts.
She was appointed as a Teaching Associate in the College of Architecture at the University of the Philippines, while working on her thesis related to Sustainable Urban Design. These past few years in the academe have opened horizons for her in research and knowledge sharing at various conferences, both local and international (Philippines - Manila, Japan - Tokyo and Kitakyushu, China - Beijing, Russia - Khabarovsk, etc.). Arch. Stephanie Gilles assisted in the preparations for the Second Asia Future Conference held in August 2014 at Bali, Indonesia. And last April 2013, she obtained her Master's Degree in Architecture at the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
Soon after, she took a 3-year Post-Graduate course specializing in Interdisciplinary Humanistic Studies at Centro Internazionale di Studi in Rome, Italy. During her 2nd and 3rd year, an opportunity to become a Professor was also granted on her.
In 2008, during the Diamond Jubilee celebration of St. Joseph’s College QC, she was awarded as the Most Outstanding Alumna in the Field of Architectural Design by her alma mater, where she graduated as class valedictorian in both elementary and high school.
Ar. Steph also took up a diploma course in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of the Philippines, specializing in Environmental Management. In June 2014, she successfully passed the state board exam for Environmental Planners, her PRC license being #911. Now she's a Licensed Environmental Planner doing master planning and mixed use development projects. In 2016, she became a Licensed Real Estate Broker. Following that was her conferment as a Registered ASEAN Architect from the Philippines.

She is the Principal Architect of SNG Design Enterprise, a dynamic service-oriented design firm that has had projects all over the country and even abroad during its more than 2 decades of existence. At the United Architects of the Philippines - Diliman, she holds the position of Continuing Professional Education Director. Currently, she is the Chairperson of UAP Emergency Architects. Her corporate social outreach involvement has led her to devastated areas such as Tacloban & Roxas, giving seminars to architects on disaster-resilient design and in Bohol, where she is designing contemporary chapels beside the churches destroyed by the recent earthquake. She spearheads the collaborative work of UP PLANO with Workshop Architecture, a Norwegian-based team that is helping Streetlight Foundation provide shelter to homeless street children. She has collaborated with several professionals in the field of planning, serving the requirements of cities and municipalities such as Comprehensive Land Use Plans, Comprehensive Development Plans, Urban Master Plan, Tourism Master Development Framework, and the like. In addition to that, she is the Founding Chairperson of both the UAP - Committee on Liturgical Architecture and Sacred Spaces (CLASS) and the Guild of Liturgical Designers (GOLD). |

With reference to academic work, her passion for research has led her to participate actively and to organize seminars and conferences here and abroad, delivering papers related to architecture, urban planning, disaster management and climate change adaptation. Her extensive work experience in the Philippines and other parts of Asia has given her the exposure of working with foreign professionals and providing the competitive edge, leveling the playing field of architecture and urban planning, gearing towards ASEAN integration and globalization.
